Welcome!

Welcome to my website. I am a British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) accredited and Yoga Alliance Registered (RYT) yoga teacher, and am currently training at to be a Yoga Sports Coach with Yoga Sports Science®.

Yoga has been part of my life now for nearly fifteen years. I first “discovered” yoga through fitness training, but quickly found that it was a great means to take a pause and relax from a busy and stressful day job, and that the benefits of yoga were a really positive influence on my life, both physically and mentally. Not only has yoga helped me keep physically active and fit, it has also helped me cultivate and maintain a calm and relaxed attitude to life.

I have now had two kids, given up the day job, and have fun sharing yoga with others in south Hertfordshire (Potters Bar, Cuffley, Northaw, Brookmans Park) and north London; my students range from preschool children to adults.

I have studied with some great and inspirational yoga masters, including Tias Little, Manju Jois, Liz Lark, Jean Hall, Uma Dinsmore-Tuli and currently work regularly with Denise Martin-Harker, who is an absolutely amazing teacher. I also continue to broaden and deepen my personal practice and knowledge, attending various workshops and intensives.

How the body ‘works’ fascinates me and I have studied anatomy and physiology with Dr Ruth Gilmore and Paul Fox, as well as online with Susi Hately. This has given me an in depth knowledge of the body’s structure, systems, functioning, mechanics and alignment, as well as an understanding of how yoga postures and practices affect the body and mind, and how even very subtle changes in, for example, body alignment and the breath, can have a profound effect on physical and mental health.

When teaching yoga I apply what I have learnt with these wonderful teachers, and through my own practice, to help students work safely and realize their maximum potential benefit from each yoga session. I thoroughly enjoy sharing yoga with others and find it wonderful to see students at the end of a session looking ‘lighter’ and softer, having opened, released and de-stressed, and having unlocked a little more of their untapped potential to take with them when they leave.

I hope you enjoy reading about yoga and that my website is informative and helpful to you, but would love to hear from you if you have any questions or would like any further information.

Helen
